Three postgraduate students presented papers at an international conference held at the University of Tubingen, Germany from 6-9 October. The panel was titled 'Sex, Gender, Class and Consumption: Media Formations in the Global South'. PhD student Siyabonga Koba presented on 'Practices of pleasure: Exploring porn consumption in South Africa', PhD student Katlego Disemelo presented on his MA research, 'Black Men as Pink Consumers? A critical reading of race, sexuality and the construction of the Pink Economy in South African queer consumer media' and MA student Simphiwe Rens presented on his current research, 'Striving Towards Perfection? An Investigation into the Consumption of Self-help Media by Black South Africans'. All students did extremely well, and made the department proud!
