We are thrilled to announce that, hot on the heels of winning the Faculty of Humanities 'Team-teaching award' earlier this year, our department was nominated for, and won, the Vice-Chancellor's Team Teaching award for 2016.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof Andrew Crouch, said, "It was noted that this department has developed and demonstrated a deep capacity for team work, collegiality and inclusive decision-making across the three years of their undergraduate curriculum. This has had significant implications for the quality of their intellectual environment as well as for throughput rates."
The award comes with a R40,000 grant that we will use to further the advancement of our programmes, and we plan to use it to train tutors, conduct curriculum workshops and do other teaching and learning-centric activities.
We received the award at the Council Dinner on 02 December, where several of us attended to accept the prize on behalf of the whole department.
We are grateful for the recognition of our hard work, and thank the Faculty and University for this honour. We also want to say a special thank you to our Department Administrator Mrs Merle Govind, as well as our fantastic Teachign Assistants and tutors, who are important members of our team.
