Dear Media Studies students,
The violence that has marred the legitimate and democratic protests taking place on campus this week has been extremely distressing for all of us. We know that a lot of you will be feeling very anxious about the situation at Wits and about your studies.
We want to reassure you that, as a department, we're committed to finding creative solutions to help you get through this academic year. Some of your classes have already been moved online via Sakai. Timetables will be changed and specific classes dropped where necessary. All assignments due at the start of next week will be given across the board extensions and any material that isn't covered in class will be left out of your exams.
As always, Media Studies staff are available to talk through any issues you might have. Please contact your course coordinator/supervisor if you need extra support. Unfortunately we're not physically present while Wits is shut but you can always reach us by email.
For those on campus, CCDU is open and is offering trauma counselling to students. Please take advantage of this if you're experiencing any difficulties. To those involved in the protests, please be careful, be thoughtful, and look after yourselves and each other.
